I’ve always loved cooking and baking, and I’m constantly on the lookout for classes where I can expand my skills and pick up a few new tricks. Enter the King Arthur Baking School! You may already know King Arthur for their flour—it really is some of the best out there—but did you know they also run an entire school dedicated to the art of baking?
The King Arthur Baking School (KABS) welcomes bakers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re a curious kid, a seasoned professional, or somewhere in between, there’s a class that will meet you where you are. Their lineup includes everything from bread and pastry basics to specialized workshops taught by a faculty of passionate baking professionals. They even bring in guest instructors with unique expertise, all ready to share their knowledge and help you gain confidence in the kitchen.
Classes are offered both online and in-person, with two brick-and-mortar locations: The Bread Lab in Burlington, WA, and the King Arthur Baking Company headquarters in Norwich, VT. I’ve been lucky enough to attend classes at both, and while each has its own vibe, I’d happily recommend either location.
Signing up is easy—you can browse offerings and register directly online at King Arthur Baking School. On class day, just show up! Doors open about 15 minutes before start time, and everything is set up for you: ingredients, small tools, and equipment are all provided. Aprons and side towels are included, but it’s best to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little floury. Closed-toe shoes and minimal jewelry are also smart choices.
Here’s a tip from experience: if you’re within driving distance, bring a cooler so you can safely transport your creations home. If you’re flying in, leave some extra space in your bags—you’ll want to bring home baked goods (carry-on) and maybe a few irresistible souvenirs (checked bag) from the King Arthur shop! (And if you can’t take everything with you, your hotel staff won’t complain if you leave them a box of pastries.)
Over the years, I’ve taken a mix of online and in-person classes, and each one has left me inspired and excited to bake more at home. Some of my favorites have been Macarons, Pizza Palooza, British Meat Pies, Empanadas, Rustic Summer Tarts, Lofty Layers: Crafting Croissants, and the Bakers’ Harvest Conference. Every class is hands-on, approachable, and just plain fun.

The best part? The skills you pick up at King Arthur Baking School really stick with you. Back at home, you’ll be equipped to recreate those same delicious treats for family and friends, confidence included. And if you ever hit a snag, the King Arthur Baking Hotline is just a call away! Their experts are incredibly helpful when it comes to troubleshooting and making sure your next attempt is a success.
Whether you’re looking to master croissants, perfect a pie crust, or just spend a day baking alongside passionate instructors, King Arthur Baking School is a true gem. For me, it’s the perfect blend of education, inspiration, and just plain fun in the kitchen.
