Jamaican Birthday Celebrations – Day 2

Interesting start to the day, there is no running water on the property so no shower, hand washing, or flushing toilets. I went down to the front desk to learn that a water main had been damaged and the entire property was without water. We decided to go get breakfast and head to down to the water. This is at approximately 8am and every single chair with any shade is claimed, though of course people aren’t actually sitting in them. Not the best start, but we’re rolling with it!

The day is hot and the sun feel scalding. Jamaica is unseasonably hot and there is no rain in the forecast which is particularly unusual for this time of year. We spend a few hours reading by the ocean before deciding we needed to get out of the sun and cool off. This is when we got our second blow of the day … the air conditioning is also not functioning properly with the water out. Our room is no cooler than outside and standing near the vent feels like actual heated air coming out. At this point, we’re both annoyed and trying to make the best of it. After all, a bad trip is bound to happen at some point.

Thankfully, the water is back on late afternoon and we are able to shower and enjoy dinner. We returned to our room to also find the air conditioning had enough time to regain its function and the room was much cooler than earlier in the day. We opted for an early night in with reading and watching television. This is an R-paced trip meaning relaxing and slow pace is the name of the game. Hopefully the rest of the week will be better than the beginning!
