R and I are off to Savannah for the long holiday (Memorial Day) weekend! We’re driving as Savannah is an easy 4 hour drive from our house. We are staying at the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District which is located on River Street.

Once a power plant, the hotel blends modern comfort and convenience with old function and purpose. The property is composed of three main buildings with hotel rooms, shops, restaurants, and bars. Each building has its own signature style and design with chic architecture in the Power Plant, romantic styling in the Three Muses, and contemporary maritime in the Atlantic. There are additional restaurants on the river which are associated with the hotel and offer a more laid back vibe for food and drinks. The lobby of the Power Plant building is massive and there is a lot to see! There are geode displays and art work, components of the old power plant, fossils, and a dinosaur skeleton structure. The dinosaur looks really cool in the evening when the colored lights reflect off the silver of the skeleton.

Savannah Tequila Co is one of the restaurant options and is where we had lunch. Tequila lovers rejoice because Savannah Tequila Co has a tequila menu that is as long (if not longer) than the food menu. For drinks, I had the Desert Rose drink while R had the El Jefe. We ordered the Shrimp a la Diabla Tostada to share. R had Asada tacos and I had the Baja fish tacos as our entrees. The food, drinks, and service were amazing! We were hungry and Savannah Tequila Co hit the spot.

We were both feeling a little drained from the drive and the week so we went to reception to confirm our room was ready. We are in the Three Muses building and have a room with a city view. The room has a small balcony which is nice. My only complaint is the noise that makes its way up from the bars and street below but we’ll (hopefully) acclimate to it.

We had a nice nap and woke up about 5:30. I was still battling a headache and was hungry so we changed clothes and headed out for dinner. I didn’t make reservations or plan out every moment of this trip; we have options of things we’d like to do so we are flying by the seat of our pants a little bit and making decisions as we go. We decided to have dinner at Treylor Park Double Wide because it is on our list and was the closest, only about a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
Treylor Park is designed to look like an Airstream and has an old-school diner vibe. We ordered the Treylor Park Nachos Grande and Hot Chicken and Waffles Tacos to share. The nachos are waffle fries topped with pickles, fried chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, chive ranch, and balsamic gastrique. The chicken and waffles include sweet waffle, fried chicken, hot sauce, bourbon pecan maple syrup, blueberry compote, and powdered sugar, served in a taco stand. It was messy and difficult to eat with your hands even though it was meant to be a taco. R liked the food but I thought it was mediocre. The flavors were good but the dishes could have been edited and been better for it. Plus the food was not served hot which I hate. The service was good despite the (in my opinion) disappointing food.

After dinner we walked down River Street and decided to turn in for an early night. Hopefully tomorrow we wake up rested and feeling better in general.
