If I’m not curled up in a comfy spot being a bookworm, I can’t seem to sit still for very long and, with the weather seemingly skipping spring and going straight to summer, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to get out of the house today! I convinced R to drive out to Southern Belle Farm for some outdoor fun.

Southern Belle Farm is a family owned farm in McDonough, GA, about 45 minutes to an hour southeast of Atlanta. The Carter Family has been in Henry County 8 generations and on this same farm for 5 generations. The family has diversified the 330-acre working farm to include a cattle operation as well as an agrotourism attraction. Southern Belle Farms is open seasonally for fresh produce, berry picking, peach picking, fall activities, Christmas trees, and more.

Each season brings different activities. U-pick strawberries are popular in spring and the picking season begins mid-April and ends in early summer. Other spring activities include Belle’s Barnstormer, Pedal Karts, Jumping Pillows, Cow Train, Belle’s Barnyard, Tube Slide, Corn Combine Slide, Trike Track, and Gem Mining. There are activities for all ages! As the spring seasons fades to summer, the u-pick crops also change to peaches, blackberries, blueberries, muscadines, and flowers. Fall festivities include a pumpkin patch, 4 acres of corn maze, and more outdoor attractions while Christmas brings visits with Santa!

I enjoy and appreciate the educational aspects Southern Belle Farms has incorporated. With so many people now being several degrees removed from food production it is helpful to share reliable and accurate information rather than sensationalized stories.

Note: you pay for the fruit you pick plus a $1.00 per person patch admission fee for the U-pick. Admission into the other areas are a separate entry and some attractions, like Gem Mining, have an additional charge. It is a good way to spend a day with friends, family, or just you and your significant other.

The market has produce and a variety of baked goods, jams, jellies, and other sundry of delectable edible treats so you can fill up the backseat and take home a variety of homemade goodness. Try the strawberry shortcake and strawberry lemonade! Food trucks offer a standard variety of burgers, pizzas, and sandwiches if you need something more hearty.
